Blaire & Dave Isleib’s beautiful wedding was featured in SLPCBG.  I’ve yet to post my favorite photos from this wedding but many of them made in into my best of 2011 post.  More soon to come on this amazing wedding we had so much fun documenting.  For Blaire’s selects check our photos in her gallery here.

P.S. – How cool is it that the magazine led their Real Weddings section with a full page black & white image?!  Love that!  Of course it helps that it’s our photo….but I’m still impressed with that aesthetic choice.

I had the pleasure of shooting and attending The Write Image Holiday Social over the holidays.  Rather than displaying all the photos on my journal I think I’ll direct you to Lauren’s coverage of her fabulous party, here.   This was my first chance to poke around The Write Image and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the product and service.  So impressed in fact that I bought my holiday cards and placed an order for business cards.  Can’t wait to see them!

I completely enjoyed the fun, artful projects provided by Sycamore Street Press and the amazingly delicious macaroons, especially the orange & ginger, by Mercedes White Macarons.  Oh, and did I mention the lovely little Kate Holland heart necklace I walked home with?

The lovely and talented Heidi Larsen has been the face behind many creative endeavors including but not limited to Utah Bride & Groom Magazine and the FoodieCrush blog.  Recently she took FoodieCrush to a whole new level by launching the FoodieCrush Magazine, an online food magazine that “loves food bloggers, their recipes and photography”.  Needless to say, I am thrilled to have been involved and think the issue is amazing.  Seriously, swing by and check it out.  It’s full to the brim with amazing recipes, commentary and photos…..just in time for the holidays.

I had the pleasure of shooting the Apres Eats story, featuring Dara of Cookin’ Canuck and Kelley of Mountain Mama Cooks.  Feast your eyes upon the full story here.  I’ve included some of my favorite photos below but I do love the way they were used in the issue so do have a peek.  Besides, it isn’t just my feature that compels me to send you there.  Many talented individuals were involved in this issue including the multi talented Tessa Woolf, editor of Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom  & Lauren Brady, owner of Saucy  Kitsch…….both of whom I absolutely adore.

I’ve realized that photography, to me, isn’t just about the production of photos.  In fact, if I was never allowed to develop the film from this trip I still would have spent the majority of my time with a camera pressed up against my face.  I think this is because the use of the camera helps me to explore people, places and things.  Nestled comfortably behind a black box of some sort or another, I’m free to interpret the world as I see fit. I understand it through documenting it and for this aspect of the art form I’m incredibly grateful.  Anything that will aid in my feeling able to connect to things and being inspired by them deserves that gratitude.

If you haven’t already ordered it in print, check out the site, journal and Volume 1 online.  Super inspiring.  And don’t skip the manifesto on the site.  Like an artistic, welcoming, warm fuzzy blanket.  How I would love to share more photos from the shoot with you but I suppose we’ll all have to wait for the next volume.  I swear I’m not anxious only because I have photos in the magazine.    I have however dared to share one portrait I took of Nate and Katie with the Hasselblad.  One little magical moment among many.

As the warmth and haze of summer is already starting to fade and I feel the slightest hint of autumn pending I’m feeling compelled to grasp onto the last moments of the season that passed me by in a flurry this year.  I truly hate the feeling that some part of my life just zoomed by, right past my gaze in a blur of missed details and future regrets.  I love little moments and have a sneaking suspicion that this summer I might have missed a few.  So, in a desperate attempt to stop summer dead in it’s tracks for the last few weeks of August and into September I’m using a very powerful tool I have in my back pocket and use often.  Music.  The ability music has to transport me to specific times of my life is undeniable so I’m consciously documenting the moods of this summer…..burning in my brain every detail and moment I did manage to harness so that when I come back to this set of songs in the future I’ll have something to grab onto.  What a comfort.  I’m already smiling.

Now, what to do with these little gems?  We’ve just moved into our new home so at first the thought of anything that involved baking in my half stocked kitchen seemed daunting.  Maybe just sliced over yogurt I thought.  No, that would not cut it.  I set one aside for a little greek bliss later because it was obvious, these little lovelies wanted to be nestled into the loving embrace of a tart.  I didn’t have any sugar yet but I did have butter, flour & honey.  Done.

These tarts are so simple.  Just a pastry crust filled with a dusting of flour to absorb any juices release while baking and an apricot & honey mixture.  Oh, what I would have given for some lavender.  I’ll just have to make another go of it soon.
